Vatican City

After walking our legs off yesterday, we opted for a shorter walking day today. We walked from our B&B to the Vatican City. We visited the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Square. The museum was crazy crowded but there were some amazing stuff there. Here are the highlights:

Let's start with, "This is what Ninja (my doberman) would look like if he were half human"

This one is for the Peterson boys. You know who you are Picker Peterson!

This poor statue seems to be missing a few things.
This is NOT the Sistine Chapel but they don't allow pictures in the Sistine Chapel. This is the one of many beautiful ceilings I've chosen to post in lieu of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. The art work was really amazing but the crowd was out of control. I could only imagine how fantastic it would be to see it without the crowd. It might even be awe-inspiring! ;)

The way down from the Vatican Museum.
I was sure that if you trip and fall, you will just have to roll all the way down.

 Vatican City Wall

Now entering St. Peter's Square

There are 284 columns and 88 pillars.....(Thanks Rick Steves' free podcast)

 The Obelisk

It was quite warm outside, I thought about going in for a splash.

The Bernini's bronze work really was amazing up close.

Michelangelo's Pieta is now behind bullet proof glass because, a few years ago, some crazy man broke in and started hacking at the statue with a knife.
Thanks crazy man for ruining it for the rest of us.

The very colorful uniform the swiss mercenaries have to wear to guard the Vatican. No wonder the crazy man got in because he could spot the guards anywhere with that uniform.

That's it for the Vatican. We were pretty wiped out from the day before so we headed back after the Vatican City visit. Only about 6 hours worth of walking today.
